‘These three must be protected and guided’: Aubrey Ngoma on Bafana trio
While the nation grapples with who will be Themba Zwane’s fitting replacement, former PSL winger Aubrey Ngoma has implored clubs and Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to protect three exceptional players.
Ngoma reckons it is close to impossible for Mamelodi Sundowns star Themba Zwane to be replaced at both club and national team level.
Instead, the 35-year-old is of the view that three youthful Bafana Bafana players must be safeguarded for posterity.
For Ngoma, Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng, Stellenbosch FC’s Jayden Adams and Oswin Appollis of Polokwane City FC have what it takes to take Bafana forward when Zwane hangs his boots.
Mofokeng has been slowly integrated into the national team, with Broos mostly using him as a second-half substitute in the four matches he played.
On the other hand, Adams has been promising. But, last time out, he was kicked out of the team due to reported “bad behaviour”, as revealed by coach Broos. However, the latter did not expand on the reasons for Adams’ expulsion from the Bafana camp.
Appollis has already settled in, commanding the first-team jersey at Bafana. So far, he has contributed two goals and three assists in nine international appearances.
WHAT NGOMA SAID AS HE IMPLORED CLUBS AND COACH HUGO BROOS
In an interview with FARPost, the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns player said, “Themba Zwane is going to be difficult to replace.
“He is at his own level. He has proved to be a rare breed in terms of giving consistent performances for both club and country. So, getting a fitting replacement is not easy.
“But we have some explosive players that are sure to give us something to celebrate. It has been a long since we saw someone like Rele [Relebohile Mofokeng]. He has left me in awe.
“There is also Jayden Adams, who has been promising. Despite the indiscipline issue, I know he is the star we all want. Oswin has proved himself.
“For me, these three players must be protected and guided at both club and national team level. They are a potential big force. Considering their ages, they are what we want,” Ngoma said.
