Donay Jansen reflects on the emotional toll of facing Kaizer Chiefs
SuperSport United attacker on loan from Kaizer Chiefs Donay Jansen has reflected on the emotional toll of facing his parent club.
Jansen signed a new three-year deal with Chiefs at the beginning of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign before heading to SuperSport on loan.
The 21-year-old has made two appearances in all competitions for the Tshwane side, coming off the bench in both matches.
In a match against Chiefs, the Tshwane side lost 4-0 in the first round of the Carling Knockout Cup last Saturday in Polokwane. On Saturday, 26 October, the two sides will once again renew their rivalry in the league.
WHAT DONAY JANSEN SAID ON FACING KAIZER CHIEFS
Jansen says it was hard to face Chiefs, and it will be difficult again on Saturday. He hopes he will get some minutes.
“It’s never easy to face your team. For me it’s so difficult as I know a lot of players there, and I know the team quite well,” Jansen told FARPost.
“When I faced them, [in the Carling Knockout Cup] I was emotional and I wasn’t happy but I had to play against them, I had no choice.
“On Saturday, we’re also facing them. I hope I will get some minutes to play against my team. Now we know how they play and what to expect from them. But we’re going to do our best. The last result was because of our mistakes.”
Jansen further reflected on his progress at the club under experienced coach Gavin Hunt.
“Getting to the SuperSport squad was very hard in terms of the style of play. But I’m learning a lot under coach Gavin [Hunt].
“All I have to do on my side is to keep on working hard at training and during matches. I have to listen to the coach’s instructions and try doing it on the pitch.”
