Percy Tau adds to trophy cabinet with latest Al Ahly triumph

Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau has extended his trophy collection with the latest Al Ahly victory in the Egyptian Super Cup.

The Red Devils secured the Egyptian Super Cup after an exhilarating penalty shootout, emerging victorious with a score of 7-6 at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

This was after the match ended 0-0 both in the regulation time and extra time.

This was a bounce-back from their recent loss to Zamalek in the CAF Super Cup, which was played in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

With this win, Tau and Al Ahly have now claimed the Egyptian Super Cup for the fourth consecutive time.

The Club of the Century has achieved this feat on 15 occasions, solidifying their status as the most successful club in this tournament.

Meanwhile, Zamalek has secured the title only four times, with their last victory occurring in 2020.

The 30-year-old left-footer was not in the starting lineup. He was brought on in extra time in the 102nd minute, replacing Wessam Abou Ali.

He successfully converted the sixth penalty in the sudden death phase, putting Al Ahly back in the lead after Zamalek had equalized.

This is his 11th trophy since joining Al Ahly from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2021 when the club was still under the tutelage of the South African coach Pitso Mosimane.
