Chiefs suffer second defeat of the season

Kaizer Chiefs suffered a 1-0 defeat to SuperSport United in a Betway Premiership clash at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening. Tashreeq Morris scored the only goal of the match at the stroke of half-time. It is the second defeat of the season for Amakhosi who have now dropped to ninth position.

Chiefs made just one change from the team that beat SuperSport 4-0 in the Carling Knockout Last weekend. Captain Yusuf Maart was dropped with Edson Castillo coming in his place.

Meanwhile, Gavin Hunt made seven changes to the team that lost to Orlando Pirates on Tuesday. The changes include the exclusion of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ricardo Goss.

SuperSport were the first to pose a threat in the early minutes from a cross by Nyiko Mobbie. But that was dealt with by Chiefs captain on the day, Inacio Miguel. Reeve Frosler came close to opening the score for the visitors but his low shot from outside the 18-area box missed the target.

Wandile Duba missed a glorious opportunity 10 minutes before the break after a good combination with Mduduzi Shabalala. But he blasted his shot over the bar. Just when the match was headed to the break goalless, Tashreeq Morris silenced the packed Peter Mokaba Stadium after he slotted home from close range on the stroke of half-time. The home side went into the break leading 1-0.

Chiefs made some changes early in the second half with Gaston Sirino and Bradley Cross making way for Njabulo Blom and Mfundo Vilakazi respectively. The changes made an impact as Chiefs piled more pressure on United but were wasteful in front of goals.

Substitute Vincent Pule nearly scored a second for the home side after he caught Chiefs keeper Fiacre Ntwari off his goalpost. But his shot from his half went over the bar.

Chiefs were the better side in the second half creating more chances but failed to convert.
