Serious setback for Kaizer Chiefs: Edson Castillo sidelined for five months

Kaizer Chiefs have suffered a major setback as midfielder Edson Castillo will be sidelined for up to five months after fracturing his fibula during their recent match against SuperSport United.

The Venezuelan was injured during the Soweto giants’ 1-0 defeat at the hands of SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday in a Betway Premiership tie.

A reckless challenge from SuperSport’s Bilal Baloyi on Castillo in the first-half led to a severe injury for the Chiefs midfielder. Castillo was forced out after just 23 minutes and replaced by captain Yusuf Maart.

Amakhosi issued an official statement on Monday, confirming the long layoff for the 30-year-old.

In the new 2024/25 season, Castillo has featured in all Chiefs opening five games in all competitions with one assists to his name.

In addition, the Glamour Boys have committed to providing Castillo with full support throughout his recovery process.

“The club stands firmly behind Edson during this challenging time. We are committed to providing him with the necessary support and resources as he undergoes surgery and embarks on his rehabilitation journey.
