Micho highlights sentimental value that Nabi brought to the PSL
Ex-Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojević has highlighted the sentimental value being derived from Nasreddine Nabi’s presence in the PSL.
Nabi arrived at the Soweto giants ahead of the ongoing Betway Premiership season, where the team has shown great improvement.
His appointment seemingly brought a new ray of hope to Kaizer Chiefs faithful as they aim to end their trophy drought. Nabi had an impressive track record especially during his time as the Young Africans SC head coach.
His task is to bring back the glory days at AmaKhosi and win their first piece of silverware since 2015.
As his tenure is still in its infancy, ‘Micho’ Sredojević has noted a significant element that is benefitting the PSL.
The Serbian mentor reckons that the league competition is deriving sentimental value from Nabi’s presence in the league.
MICHO’S SENTIMENT ABOUT NABI’S PRESENCE IN THE PSL
In an interview with FARPost, Milutin Sredojević said: “It’s like he has awakened a sleeping dragon. They are now unpredictable. It’s different from the last seasons.”
“It’s good to see Kaizer Chiefs showing that they can rise to be big on an occasion. He has managed to have everyone looking forward to their matches.
“Nabi has got fans believing and the whole league is deriving a big value from that. The league is more exciting because of that.
“That value will drive their brand forward and the other bigger teams know it. It’s going to be tough, especially when he brings the players he wants.” The same happened when he was at my former club, Young Africans. It’s easy to say the glory days are not far from them.”
Nabi took charge of the club as the coach before the start of the 2024/25 season and his first task has been to reclaim the winning mentality.
So far, Nabi’s men have won two PSL matches while losing two to Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United. In truth, how they have applied themselves has been full of passion and enthusiasm.
Most importantly, Nabi has led them to the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup, where they face Mamelodi Sundowns.
At this point, Chiefs still have a chance to challenge for a treble this season. They can fight for the PSL title, Carling Knockout and the Nedbank Cup.
Nevertheless, perennial contenders Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates stand in their way.
Pirates have shown serious intentions to win the league crown, having already won the MTN8 Cup. They are, however, out of the Carling Knockout Cup.
