Peter Mokaba Stadium to host AFCON qualifier match
The Zimbabwe Football Association has officially secured the New Peter Mokaba Stadium to host their upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifier match against Kenya, FARPost has established.
The Warriors will take on Kenya on Friday, 15 November 2024, with the kick-off set for 18:00.
Zimbabwe are pitted in Group J of the AFCON qualifiers alongside Cameroon, Namibia, and Kenya.
The last the two sides met in the first leg in September this year, they played out to a 0-0 draw at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.
So far, Zimbabwe is second in Group J of the AFCON qualifiers with eight points from four outings. Michael Nees’ charges are two points behind group leaders Cameroon.
In fact, Zimbabwe are just three points away from qualifying for the CAF 2025 AFCON tournament set to held in Morocco.
Meanwhile, Kenya is in position three in Group J with four points after four games. Mathematically, Kenya is still in contention to book a ticket to the 2025 AFCON tournament.
WHY ZIMBABWE NATIONAL TEAM HOSTING KENYA AT NEW PETER MOKABA FOR THE AFCON QUALIFIER CLASH
Zimbabwe are forced to play their AFCON qualifiers matches away from home due to CAF’s strict stadium accreditation standards.
This issue is not something new as we have seen several clubs and national teams competing in the CAF football competitions having to play their encounters in foreign countries as their stadiums do not meet the standards of the CAF.
However, this publication can confirm that the deal between the Polokwane Municipality and the Zimbabwe Football Association was concluded yesterday.
Polokwane people will be in for a treat when the two nations lock horns at Peter Mokaba Stadium, as both sides are gunning for victories to keep their dreams of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON tournament alive.
