Luyolo Slatsha on playing with Mokotjo and Domingo at CT City

Rising midfielder Luyolo Slatsha has opened up on playing alongside his esteemed idol, Kamohelo Mokotjo, as well as the skilled Haashim Domingo at Cape Town City FC.

The 22-year-old has matured so well under head coach Eric Tinkler and has been one of the preferred starters for Cape Town City FC this season.

Slatsha rose from the club’s junior ranks into the senior team, and his exceptional talent has seen him be likened to Mamelodi Sundowns anchorman Teboho Mokoena and Bongani Zungu.

And as his steady rise continues, Slatsha has been privileged to play with highly-rated midfielders such as Mokotjo and Domingo.

Mokotjo and Domingo joined the Citizens ahead of the 2024/25 season from Sekhukhune United and Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca, respectively.

In addition, the duo have been tipped to turn around CT City’s fortunes along with former Orlando Pirates midfielder Fortune Makaringe.

Both, Mokotjo and Domingo are known for their versatility and creativity, while Slatsha has carved a niche for mopping up loose balls before they enter more harmful territory.

As such, the steady midfielder Slatsha has stated that playing with Mokotjo, who he admires, and Domingo is good for his growth as a footballer.

SLATSHA HONORED TO SHARE THE PITCH WITH MOKOTJO AND DOMINGO

In an interview with FARPost, Slatsha said: “When I talk of the players from Europe, I look at Mesut Ozil. He was such an inspiration to me.

“Locally, Kamohelo Mokotjo is the player I look up to. His type of play really inspires me. The good thing is that we are playing in the same team now.

“But to be honest, playing alongside Mokotjo and Domingo has changed me a lot. Someone else can regard them as competition, but personally, I realised that it’s wiser to learn from their experience.

“These are players that have seen it all. They are league winners and have both had that exposure playing outside of South Africa.

“So I can only learn from them rather than competing. In addition, it has been different since they came at City. I’ve raised my game because of the guidance.”
