Mngqithi’s latest on Kobamelo Kodisang’s progress

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has given an update on attacker Kobamelo Kodisang’s progress at the club.

Kodisang joined Sundowns ahead of the current 2024/25 Betway Premiership from Liga Portugal side Moreirense FC.

For the Tshwane giants, the 25-year-old is yet to make an impression and make his presence known following limited playing time.

In Masandawana colours, the Bafana Bafana international has only made four appearances in all competitions and scored one goal.

The right winger has started one match and came in three times as a substitute. These matches were against Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8, Polokwane City FC in the league and twice against Mbabane Swallows in the CAF Champions League.

MANQOBA MNGQITHI SAYS KODISANG IS CLOSE TO START ESTABLISHING HIMSELF IN THE PSL

Mngqithi says the talented attacker is adapting very well at Sundowns, and he has been impressed in the few matches he has played. The Downs mentor is optimistic that Kodisang will contribute towards the club’s success once he starts playing regularly.

“I think he’s adapting quite well; it’s just that it’s a very difficult environment [competition]. When he got the few opportunities he had, I was happy,” said Mngqithi.

“We gave him an opportunity against Mbabane Swallows he scored. We gave him a chance against Polokwane City he played well. I think he’s close to really establishing himself in the PSL.

“He’s a very good football player. We brought him because we’re aware of what he’s capable of, but it’s quite tough, our environment is not easy for players to break in. It’s worse when playing official matches, that demand is so much. I’m very hopeful he’s going to get an opportunity soon and stamp his authority.

“Now he’s finding himself in the matchday squad which is very good and I’m optimistic he’s going to help us. He has a lot of good attributes as a player, we’re hoping those attributes will help us when we need them the most.”
