What drove Sead Ramovic to quit live on TV?

Sead Ramovic has shed light on the factors that led to his sudden resignation, announced live on television during a post-match interview on Wednesday.

The announcement came after Galaxy’s 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town. This result left the club winless after six games, with just two draws to their name, accumulating a mere two points from a possible 18.

Ramovic, a former VfL Wolfsburg goalkeeper, was linked with a move to Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca during the off-season but ultimately remained at Galaxy. However, the start of the season has been challenging for the 45-year-old coach.

SEAD RAMOVIC EXPLAINS SHOCK RESIGNATION

The outspoken German tactician revealed that the constant challenge of rebuilding a team from scratch had taken its toll.

“In the end, I would like to win something, and if you sell every year half of your team and start from scratch again, it’s not that easy because it takes a lot of energy,” he said as per iDiski Times.

In the last two seasons, some of the top players they have sold include Given Msimango, Bathusi Aubaas, Melusi Buthelezi, Fiacre Ntwari, Pogiso Sanoka, Lehlohonolo Mojela and Tshegofatso Nyama.

Galaxy president Tim Sukazi has been open about the club’s strategy of selling top talent to reinvest in the squad. “Our business model is to sell our best players and re-invest proceeds thereof in our club,” Sukazi recently stated.

This approach has seen the club successfully sell over 10 players in the last two seasons to top-tier clubs.

However, Sukazi acknowledges the challenges inherent in this model, particularly in consistently identifying and nurturing talent that attracts interest from bigger clubs.

“It’s not easy to find and develop good players who will attract interest from big clubs,” he said. “This is where scouting, as well as the hand of the coach, comes to great significance.”

Ramovic and his technical team have been instrumental in elevating the performance of Galaxy players, making them attractive to other clubs.

He guided the club to a sixth-place finish last season, also reaching the final of the Carling Knockout Cup.

WHAT RAMOVIC WILL DO AFTER HIS RESIGNATION

Ramovic explained that he would be spending time with family back home.

“And I would like to spend more with my parents because they are older. They came with me when I arrived, but they spent only eight months. Now, they are back. They cannot fly so much, and my father is 76 and you never know how much time you can see my forefathers. So it’s time to spend time with them.”
