Chippa United make another U-turn on Home of Legends Cup
Following their withdrawal from the Home of Legends Cup earlier this week, Chippa United have made another U-turn regarding their participation.
The tournament also involves clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows. It is scheduled to play at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, 16 November, during the FIFA International break.
Chippa announced on Wednesday their withdrawal, and they were replaced by fellow Betway Premiership side Cape Town City FC. They cited the unequal distribution of funds as the main reason.
However, in a statement released on Friday, the ‘Chilli Boys’ confirmed that a meeting took place to resolve their issues with the tournament organisers. It was attended by Nelson Mandela Bay Development Agency CEO Mr Anele Qaba, executive director of Chippa Lukanyo Mzinzi, and club chairman Chippa Mpengesi.

“This development will allow Chippa United FC to bring selected PSL matches back to the heart of the townships of Gqeberha, making top-flight football more accessible to our supporters in Gqeberha and surrounding communities.
“We thank the people of the Gqeberha for their advocacy for the club during this time. Your voices have been heard, and together, we continue to build a brighter future for football in our province.
