How Inacio Miguel can reach his full potential at Kaizer Chiefs

Former Kaizer Chiefs player David Kannemeyer has shared his insights on how talented defender Inacio Miguel can maximize his potential at the Soweto giants.

The highly-touted defender – Miguel from Angolan powerhouse Petro de Luanda, joined Chiefs ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season with high expectations on his shoulders.

Miguel has swiftly cemented his place in the Amakhosi starting XI, becoming a regular starter and even captaining the side in two matches this season. Partnering with Bafana Bafana star Rushwin Dortley, the duo has already shown promising signs of a formidable defensive partnership for Chiefs.

So far in Chiefs colours, the 28-year-old has made six appearances across all competitions, scoring a goal and contributing to a clean sheet.

KANNEMEYER SAYS INACIO MIGUEL SHOULD AVOID GETTING MANY BOOKINGS

Kannemeyer stressed the importance of discipline, advising Miguel to avoid unnecessary bookings that could hinder his progress in the SA elite league.

Miguel’s disciplinary record has been a concern, with four yellow cards and one red card already this campaign. The yellow cards were accumulated in matches against AmaZulu FC, Mamelodi Sundowns, and SuperSport United [twice], resulting in a one-match suspension against Magesi FC. His recent red card against Sundowns in the Carling Knockout quarter-finals further compounded the issue.

“He’s a good defender, but I think he should learn to keep his cool and be a bit calm when he’s playing,” Kannemeyer told FARPost.

“I think it’s frustration [that leads to his bookings], but as a leader and being a captain, sometimes he’s doing well in that field.

“Well [bookings] happen in football, if things are not going well you end up, doing those wrong actions. Those actions come with consequences that may haunt the team. If he corrects that, get less bookings, Miguel will improve his game without a doubt.”
