Richards Bay’s Brandon Truter faces the axe
FARPost has learnt that Richards Bay FC head coach Brandon Truter is facing the axe amid a slow start to the season.
The Cape Town-born coach took over the reins at the Natal Rich Boyz in August, succeeding Vusumuzi Vilakazi, who now serves as co-coach alongside Arthur Zwane at AmaZulu FC.
The team’s poor start in the Betway Premiership has significantly diminished their hopes of achieving the ambitious goal of finishing in the top four, a target set by the club along with their new sponsor, Phakwe Gas.
The KZN side has only won one match out of seven league games they have played so far, drawing two and suffering defeats in the other four.
They find themselves in 12th place in the league standings, having accumulated just five points.
Additionally, the team has struggled offensively, netting only two goals in their last ten matches across all competitions.
However, Richards Bay had a fair run in the Carling Knockout Cup, reaching the semi-finals, where they were eliminated by the high-flying league newcomers Magesi FC at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.
BRANDON TRUTER LOOKS SET TO EXIT RICHARDS BAY
However, FARPost sources indicate that the club had been contemplating a coaching change even before their exit from the Carling tournament.
Under Truter’s tutelage over the past three months, the club has played a total of ten matches, recording three wins [two of which were secured via penalty shootouts in the Carling], two draws, and five losses.
This marks Truter’s second tenure with the Zululand club, having previously managed them from 2018 to 2019 when they were competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Truter, a familiar face in SA football, has previously coached AmaZulu FC, Moroka Swallows, Sekhukhune United and All Stars.
Prior to his Richards Bay appointment, he served as the Technical Director at Upington City FC, a club in the second tier.
