How Jessica Motaung’s advice transformed Bernard Parker’s brand
TS Galaxy DDC coach Bernard Parker has revealed how Kaizer Chiefs marketing manager Jessica Motaung’s invaluable advice significantly impacted his personal brand.
Parker enjoyed an illustrious 11-year career at Kaizer Chiefs between 2011 and 2022 before moving to TS Galaxy, where he played for two years before retiring.
While at Chiefs, the 38-year-old juggled his playing commitments with academic pursuits, completing a Sports Management course.
Recognising his potential, Motaung advised Parker to add on Sports Marketing to further elevate his brand.
Parker credits Jessica’s advice for providing him with fresh perspectives and significantly boosting his brand awareness.
BERNARD PARKER – ‘JESSICA MADE EXAMPLE OF DAVID BECKHAM’
“I got inspired by Jessica Motaung in terms of marketing,” said Parker during the interview with FARPost.
“When I completed my Sports Management, I wanted to continue to do something else.
“She advised me to say Marketing is very big; you’ll get to understand how to deal with people in corporate. When you become an ambassador, you get to understand what is in it.
“So, I took on Sports Marketing. When I completed it, then I got a bigger perspective on what my agent is doing and how I have to market myself and my brand in terms of attracting the interest of people to invest in me and trust in me in terms of how to maximise their companies.
“Working with brands is very, very powerful and Jessica Motaung also made an example with regards to David Beckham, that he’s the best example [in marketing his brand].”
PARKER IS IN HIS THIRD YEAR WITH SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY & LIFE COACHING
Parker further revealed that he’s currently pursuing a Sports Psychology and Life Coaching Course at Trifocus Fitness Academy and is now in his third year of study.
He believes that this qualification will enhance his ability to understand and support the mental well-being of his players, which in turn will positively impact their performance on the field.
“Three years ago, I also applied for Sports Psychology and Life Coaching,” he added.
“So, I’m in my third year now. So I get to, with the current generation that we have, understand the mentality, the human being first before the footballer.”
