What the upcoming PSL EXCO needs to improve on
Despite the success and proven stability, ex-football administrator Afzal Khan has pointed out one area that the incoming PSL EXCO needs to improve during their term in office.
The league will elect the EXCO on Wednesday, which will be led by chairman Irvin Khoza, who is running unopposed.
There are four new faces on the list of nominees vying for the EXCO committee positions. Khan, who is a former manager at clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Santos FC and Manning Rangers, says there is a need to do more marketing to bring back supporters to the stadium and not just for big games.
MESSAGE TO THE INCOMING EXCO TO WORK ON BRINGING BACK MORE FANS INTO THE STADIUM
“We need to get them more into the stadiums. It’s just the big games that are drawing crowds,” Khan told FARPost.
“But I think once that is re-established and the focus is bringing more people into the stadiums, I think then the league is back to where it belongs.”
THREE-TIME PREMIERSHIP-WINNING ADMINISTRATOR AFZAL KHAN IMPRESSED WITH THE WORK DONE AT THE PSL
“As I said, the driving force has been Dr Irvin Khoza. He has kept it in shape. So it’s just to continue the good work that they have done. Over the COVID-19 period, we had to watch games live on TV from their homes,” added Khan.
“The good administration, gaining of sponsorship, Broadcasting and TV deals. It’s just that after COVID-19, the league needs to give serious attention to marketing to lure support and bring back more crowds at the stadium because that’s the only factor at the moment where people are too relaxed.”
The new EXCO members will be elected during the Annual General Meeting at Sandton Convention Centre.
