Mngqithi outlines Sundowns ‘primary goals’ this season

Having been at the helm for over four months, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has discussed his team’s “primary goals” for the current 2024/25 campaign.

Mngqithi took over the reins at Masandawana following the sudden departure of Rulani Mokwena ahead of the start of the season.

While the Brazilians have experienced a less consistent start to the current campaign compared to previous seasons, Mngqithi’s team is showing signs of improvement.

As the Brazilians aim to surpass their previous season’s achievements, Mngqithi says the club is targeting an eighth consecutive league title, the CAF Champions League, and a strong performance at the FIFA Club World Cup.

WHAT SUNDOWNS HAVE SET THEIR SIGHTS ON THIS SEASON

“The focus is on winning more matches than losing. Winning as many games as possible brings us closer to greater achievements,” said Mngqithi, as per Mamelodi Sundowns Magazine.

“One of our primary goals is to win the league for an eighth consecutive time, but we also have our sights set on the CAF Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

“These tournaments present a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our talent on a larger stage and compete against some of the best teams in the world.

“We are committed to building a squad that not only excels domestically but also makes a significant impact internationally.”

Mngqithi expressed his gratitude to the club’s management for their trust and vowed to repay it with success.

MNGQITHI ON BEING TRUSTED BY SUNDOWNS MANAGEMENT

“The Club has supported me for the past 12 years, and they understand the love, passion and dedication I have for this team.

“I am committed to repaying their faith by guiding the team to success. Our collective ambition is to not only win titles but to foster a culture of excellence that inspires future generations of players and supporters alike.”
