Chiefs defender Dortley outlines his short-term & long-term ambitions
Having made his move to Kaizer Chiefs at the beginning of the season, Rushwin Dortley has revealed his short-term and long-term ambitions.
The 22-year-old centre-back was acquired by Amakhosi in the most recent transfer window as the club embarks on a rebuilding process under the guidance of their new coach, Nasreddine Nabi.
The left-footer has hit the ground running at the club, featuring in all seven matches they have played in all competitions so far.
Dortley forms a central defensive partnership with another new arrival, Inacio Miguel, who signed for Amakhosi from Angolan giants Petro de Luanda at the beginning of the season.
His impressive performances at Chiefs have seemingly earned him a place at Bafana Bafana as he’s been part of the national team in the last two international breaks.
Dortley has completed the full 90 minutes in each of SA’s last three matches.
Speaking with journalists during the press conference in Cape Town, he revealed that his ultimate ambition is to earn a move to a club in one of Europe’s top leagues.
CHIEFS STAR DORTLEY – ‘EVERYONE’S DREAM IS TO GO OVERSEAS’
“Long-term, everyone’s dream is to go overseas,” said Dortley. “Everyone says Europe, but there are different countries in Europe. So, you can’t just say you want to go to Europe.
“I think for me is to play in a good league overseas. For me, my goal is to play at the highest level football has to offer.”
In the short term, Dortley aims to contribute to Chiefs’ success and help the club end their trophy drought, which has lasted since 2015.
DORTLEY WANTS TO HELP CHIEFS WIN TROPHIES
“And my short-term goal is to give my best at Kaizer Chiefs and to win trophies,” he added. “That’s what the club has been missing and I want to give my 100% and my all to Kaizer Chiefs.”
Dortley can’t wait to hear the roar of his hometown crowd as Bafana Bafana take on South Sudan in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers at DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Tuesday at 6 PM.
