Manuel Sapunga reveals his ultimate PSL dream

Steady goalkeeper Manuel Sapunga has revealed his ultimate dream in the PSL as he relishes his stay at Betway Premiership side Polokwane City FC.

Sapunga joined the SA elite league – Betway Premiership, in July 2022 from Equatorial Guinea outfit Futuro Kings.

He has established himself as the club’s mainstay goalkeeper and is among the few foreign goalkeepers doing well in South Africa.

Plausibly, the 32-year-old reached 50 appearances as Polokwane City FC’s trusted number one. Moreover, his brilliance has not gone unnoticed, as a number of clubs have been tracking him.

As such, he is one of the foreign keepers that are enjoying game time at both national team and club level.

STEADY GOALKEEPER SAPUNGA’S ON HIS PSL DREAM

In an interview with FARPost, Sapunga opened up about his ultimate dream in the PSL. “My dream right now is to win something with Polokwane. As a team, we can beat or upset the so-called big teams in the league, but what is more memorable is winning a trophy.

“We have to capitalise on the fact that we have players that are doing extremely well at club level. They are even doing well at national team level. Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi are doing very well for us.

“So as a team, we have to take chances and win the remaining trophy at stake before these stars are signed elsewhere,” Sapunga said.

Asked about his future plans, Sapunga said: “I know there are many clubs who have inquired, but for now, I am happy. Obviously, everyone wants to move to bigger clubs but ideal, taking time to prepare yourself is mostly key.

“I’m happy that they [Polokwane City] gave me a bigger platform to be seen. But I have to repay them first before thinking of moving.

“So, I have to enjoy my time here to bring as many good results as possible. I want to be part of the crew that turns Polokwane into a beast in the league.”
