Rushwin Dortley points out similarities between Broos and Nabi
Bafana Bafana defender Rushwin Dortley believes it was easy to adapt to the national team because of similarities between his head coach at club level, Nasreddine Nabi, and coach Hugo Broos.
Dortley’s meteoric rise continues as the young defender has been a standout performer at his new club, Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana.
The 22-year-old joined the Chiefs on a three-year contract with a one-year extension clause before the start of the 2024/25 season and has been a revelation in his debut campaign.
His impressive displays for Amakhosi have earned him recognition at international level, with regular call-ups to the Bafana Bafana squad. Dortley played a crucial role in South Africa’s recent qualification for the 2025 AFCON tournament set to be staged in Morocco.
Dortley was in action as Bafana beat Uganda 2-0 at a fully-paced Mandela National Stadium in Kampala on Friday to go to the top of Group K of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
WHAT SIMILARITIES RUSHWIN DORTLEY PICKED BETWEEN NASREDDINE NABI AND HUGO BROOS
Dortley said that he appreciates Nabi’s coaching style, which aligns with his own preferred way of playing. This synergy has allowed him to adapt seamlessly to the team’s tactics.
“Look, I have learnt a lot from my club coach Nasreddine Nabi. His style of play is the way I like to play. I have adapted easily to his style of play,” he said.
“I think coach Hugo Broos, it’s a similar thing. The way they want to play and the way they want to do things. I think that’s why it has been easy for me to adapt to Hugo Broos.”
BAFANA BAFANA DEFENDER LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING IN FRONT OF HIS FAMILY
Meanwhile, Dortley, who previously played for Cape Town Spurs, is thrilled about the prospect of playing in front of his family and friends on Tuesday.
Bafana Bafana will host South Sudan at the Cape Town Stadium in an AFCON qualifier. “It’s very good playing in front of people who supported me from the start,” said the Cape Town-born defender.
“Believing in me from the start. They have always believed in me and supported me. Every time I play, my whole family is on the field. Even now, with my brother as well.
“In the communities we come from, there are no role models out there for us. So for me, it was like I have a younger brother, and I have to be a role model for him.”
