ABC Motsepe League disrupted: Two matches called off due to fan violence
The SAFA Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League experienced a tumultuous weekend as two matches were abandoned due to fan misconduct on Saturday.
This unfortunate incident highlights the ongoing issue of unruly behaviour within the league, which has tarnished its reputation and disrupted the flow of matches.
The first match to be abandoned was between FC Sivutsa NPC and Naas The Bees. The encounter descended into chaos when fans attacked match officials at half-time. With the Bees leading 2-1, the referees were forced to seek cover when two fans assaulted them on the field.
In another disturbing incident, the Phezulu FC and Middelburg United game was also called off due to fan misconduct.
It is alleged that the match was abandoned when Middelburg scored their third goal, and a brawl broke out [with fans running onto the field]. The game at Themba Senamela Stadium was called off with Middelburg ahead of Phezulu by 3-1.
A separate incident occurred in Gauteng, where the match between JBM and the University of Johannesburg (UJ) was also abandoned. A spectator, mistakenly believed to be the referee, blew a whistle, causing confusion among the JBM players, who halted play. UJ capitalised on this moment to score.
Following the incident, JBM protested the goal and withdrew from the match, leading to its abandonment in the 85th minute.
