Morena Ramoreboli: ‘Those who didn’t know me, now will know me’
Morena Ramoreboli, the mastermind behind Botswana’s historic qualification for the 2025 AFCON, has shared his personal reflections on this significant milestone in his coaching career.
The 43-year-old was appointed the Botswana interim head coach in October after Didier Gomes Da Rosa left the post vacant after his resignation.
The SA-born mentor made history on Tuesday evening after becoming the second coach to guide The Zebras to the AFCON finals. In addition, the Jwaneng Galaxy mentor ended Egypt’s 12-match winning streak at home following the 1-1 draw in Cairo.
Bostwana’s only appearance at the continental showpiece was back in 2012. The competition was co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Upon appointment, the former Bafana Bafana COSAFA Cup coach, Ramoreboli, was tasked with taking the team to Morocco for the finals with two matches remaining. In his first match, he played to a 1-1 draw against Mauritania last Friday at home.
MORENA RAMOREBOLI SAYS THE AFCON QUALIFICATION WILL PUT HIS NAME ON THE MAP
Ramoreboli believes that this achievement will elevate his profile and gain recognition from those who were previously unfamiliar with him.
“It’s a great achievement for me as an individual. Those who didn’t know me now will know me after this qualification,” Ramoreboli told FARPost.
“This has put my name on the map; this was a new thing for me. Coaching a senior team at such a big stage with a lot at stake.
“Most of the things that are happening to me are things that I prayed for. I see them manifesting, and I see them happening; I believe God has been watching me. But most importantly, it’s a great achievement for the current group of players who are representing the Zebras.”
