Ex-Chiefs goalkeeper Kabelo Metsimetsi joins Free State side

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Kabelo Metsimetsi has joined SAFA Free State ABC Motsepe League side D’General FC.

Metsimetsi forms part of the Free State amateur side D’General as their new goalkeeper coach for the 2024/25 ABC Motsepe League season.

The Free State ABC Motsepe League new campaign has already commenced, with most of the teams having already played three games from both streams [Stream A and B].

As things stand, D’General are placed on top of Stream A in the Free State ABC Motsepe League table, having collected seven points from three matches. They won two of the three matches and drew one.

Behind them is the Central University of Free State, which has six points from two outings in Stream B.

Metsimetsi will be responsible for strengthening his new team’s goalkeeping department in the new season, given his experience playing in the PSL.

With the help of former professional footballers like Metsimetsi, D’General will hope to hold on to their top spot and eventually win the provincial league. This will put them in a good position to qualify for the ABC League National Playoffs, and gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the upcoming season.

The 47-year-old, Metsimetsi, also represented teams such as Carara Kicks FC and Blackburn Rovers. But he retired from professional football in July 2013.

D’GENERAL ALSO APPOINTED A NEW COACH

Meanwhile, D’General have also beefed up their technical team. The side has appointed former Orlando Pirates striker James Mothibi as the club’s new head coach.

Mothibi is no stranger in the SA third tier having guided Jackspears FC from the Northern Cape to the provincial playoffs last season. He will be expected to achieve the same goal at the D’General come the end of the season.

He started his journey at D’General with a 1-1 draw away from home against Mangaung Unite on Friday night.

The club’s next league assignment will be against Dynamos FC at home on Saturday, 7 December 2024.

The showdown will take place at Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium, with kick-off set for 15:00.
