Ex-Sundowns defender resurfaces in ABC Motsepe League

Ex-Mamelodi Sundowns defender Clayton Daniels has resurfaced at SAFA Western Cape ABC Motsepe League side Crystal Palace FC.

Crystal Palace purchased the franchise of Ikapa Sporting FC ahead of the start of the 2024/25 ABC Motsepe League campaign.

The Menenberg-based outfit is coached by former Hellenic FC and Santos player Bradley August.

The Western Cape Motsepe League campaign has already started with three games played thus far.

CLAYTON DANIELS CAPTAINS CRYSTAL PALACE FC

The former Bloemfontein Celtic and SuperSport United defender was spotted in Crystal Palace colours over the weekend. Daniels helped his side, which he captains, secure a 2-0 win over Grassy Park United at home.

The 40-year-old has been without a club since March 2024 following his departure from Cape Town Spurs, who have relegated from the SA elite league to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. The centre-back has no desire to hang up his boots before he turns the age of 42.

Daniels’ PSL and Motsepe Foundation Championship experience is expected to help the Menenberg amateur side have a successful season. The veteran defender has also represented teams such as Maritzburg United and Ajax Cape Town.

As things stand, Crystal Palace are placed at the top of Stream A with seven points after three matches under August’s tutelage. In those three games, they secured two wins and one draw.

The club will be hoping to hold on to their perfect start with the aim to achieve its ultimate goal of winning the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League and qualify for the SA third-tier national playoffs and possibly getting promoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

CRYSTAL PALACE’S NEXT LEAGUE ASSIGNMENT

The club’s next league assignment will be against Hout Bay United on Saturday, 30 November 2024.

The showdown will take place at Dream Field in Hout Bay, with the kick-off set for 13:00.
