Struggling Motsepe Foundation Championship side AmaTuks have turned to Sammy Troughton, FARPost can exclusively reveal.
The club brought back the veteran mentor this week to revive their faltering campaign in the second-tier league.
After 11 matches, they are in 10th place, with just three wins, five draws, and three losses. Their attacking woes have been concerning, with only eight goals scored and nine conceded.
On the back of a disappointing start, the club’s management has made a significant move to bolster their coaching staff by re-appointing the revered coach.
AmaTuks trail log leaders Milford FC by nine points with 19 games before the curtain comes down on the season. The club, a perennial contender for promotion to the top flight, has been unable to secure a return to the Betway Premiership in recent years.
Troughton, a well-respected figure in South African football, will work alongside head coach Tlisane Motaung to guide the team towards their goal of promotion. The two have a long-standing relationship, with Motaung having played under Troughton as a student.
The 60-year-old coach brings a wealth of experience to the role, having coached several top-flight clubs, including the now-defunct Free State Stars and Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Troughton, who previously led the club’s elite football program, is expected to be on the bench when they play Black Leopards on Sunday. Primarily, his role is to mentor the head coach, Motaung.
Motaung is on record as saying they share a similar coaching philosophy and will always work seamlessly together. His understanding of the club and his direct approach could be invaluable.
Troughton’s appointment is expected to positively impact the team’s performance on and off the field. His expertise and guidance will be crucial as AmaTuks strive to climb the league table and secure a place in the top-flight.
