Stellenbosch FC sign Deano van Rooyen’s replacement
Stellenbosch FC have announced the signing of a new right-back to fill the void left by the departure of Deano van Rooyen.
The 2023/24 Carling Knockout Cup champions took to social media on Saturday to confirm that they have acquired the services of Nigerian international Enyinnaya Kazie Godswill as a free agent.
Godswill has been without a club after parting ways with Nigerian Premier League side Rivers United at the end of last season.
He is seen as a direct replacement for Van Rooyen, who left his hometown club and joined his dream club, Orlando Pirates, just after the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
The 25-year-old Godswill is expected to bring a wealth of experience and skill to the team. His ability to defend, attack, and provide crosses will be invaluable to Stellenbosch FC’s tactical approach.
Stellenbosch were forced to deploy players out of position at right-back, with centre-back Thabo Moloisane often filling in. While academy graduates Kyle Jurgens and Shaakir Ahmed are options, they lack significant experience at the top level.
ENYINNAYA KAZIE GODSWILL’S FIRST WORDS AS A STELLENBOSCH FC PLAYER
“First of all, I want to thank God for bringing me here after a long wait. I’m very happy to be here and to be part of the Stellenbosch family,” said Godswill.
“It is a great club that has already achieved some great things, like reaching the MTN8 final this season and competing in the CAF Confederation Cup. I am looking forward to adding to that with my experience.
“I want to contribute positively on the pitch. And I promise I will do everything within my reach to ensure that the fans and the coaches are happy.”
Godswill’s arrival in South Africa was delayed by visa issues in October. However, the Nigerian defender has now secured the necessary paperwork and is ready to make his Stellenbosch FC debut.
