Nabi laments lack of professionalism after Royal AM draw
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has lamented the lack of professionalism after his side surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw against Royal AM on Saturday night.
Amakhosi scored two first-half goals before Royal AM snatched a draw with two second-half strikes at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
The draw sees Chiefs remaining at position six on the Betway Premiership log with 11 points. Nabi couldn’t hide his frustration after the match, saying he did not understand what had gone wrong.
WHY COACH NASREDDINE NABI BELIEVE LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM COST THEM FULL POINTS
“I feel like today it’s a lack of professionalism; we could have ended the game in the first-half,” said Nabi after the match. “This game could have ended with five, six, seven or eight goals, but we did not convert the opportunities that we had.
“Sometimes you don’t score because it’s a lack of collective, sometimes ego. If you don’t respect football, football won’t respect you,” he added.
“I am very, very frustrated about the two points that we lost today because we controlled the game from the first minutes until the last minute, but that is what happens when you let the opponent live. Sometimes, if you can’t score or convert your chances, then if there’s only three or four minutes left, at least defend your lead then, so I don’t understand what happened today.”
Chiefs will be back in action on Sunday, 8 December, when they face Polokwane City FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
JOHN MADUKA PLEASED AFTER A DRAW AWAY TO KAIZER CHIEFS IN POLOKWANE
Meanwhile, Royal AM coach John Maduka was full of praise for his players after the hard-fought draw.
“I think for me it was a game of two halves; first-half it was their game and second-half we took over, and I think we were sharp enough in the final third. I am so proud of the boys.
“It was not easy when you are down 2-0 against a team like Kaizer Chiefs. Coming back and managing to get a point is something big because these are young boys.”
