Chiefs target Velebayi reveals his ultimate PSL goal

Kaizer Chiefs target Asanele Velebayi has revealed his ultimate target amid massive interest from big guns in the PSL.

Velebayi is in Cape Town Spurs’ books, where he is serving as the team captain under coach Ernst Middendorp in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

He continues to show so much promise in his favourite right-wing position. His pace and ability to make the right decision at the right time and place makes him excel.

Velebayi’s ‘never bothered’ mindset has also made him a cut above the rest at CT Spurs. As such, Orlando Pirates are also believed to have registered their interests in his services ahead of the next transfer window.

However amid all the buzz around his future, Velebayi has remained grounded, focused on one mission.

WHAT ASANELE VELEBAYI SAID

In an interview with FARPost, the 21-year-old shared what he considers his ultimate mission in the PSL.

“My peers, the likes of [Rushwin] Dortley, have done well. I don’t see what will stop me from reaching those levels or surpassing them,” he said. “At the moment, I’m focused on my job at Cape Town Spurs, but that does not mean I don’t think about the future.

“What I just avoid is losing focus and affecting my game. I can only pray that we emerge successful as a team.

“As an individual, my aim is to break into Bafana Bafana. Seeing Dortley [Rushwin] and Relebohile Mofokeng makes me feel that as youngsters, we are not far.

“I believe that is a big platform for me. We all want to rise, but it’s a process. As a player, the goal is to grow and be a Bafana player. But when interests from bigger teams come, we must be able to deal with the level of attention.

“I envy what they [Mofokeng and Dortley] are doing at club and national team, and it is something that I also hope to do,” added Velebayi.
