Al Ahly star returns ahead of crucial clash against Pirates

An Al Ahly star has made a return ahead of the club’s crucial CAF Champions League clash against Orlando Pirates this upcoming weekend.

The two sides are set to clash for the first time since their 2015 Confederation Cup semi-final encounter.

‘The Buccaneers’ eliminated ‘The Reds’ with a 5-2 aggregate scoreline to secure a spot in the final, where they were beaten by Etoile du Sahel.

Ahly have welcomed back Emam Ashour, who had been suspended and fined 1 million EGP [R370 000] by the club management after clashing with the team captain, Mohamed El-Shennawy.

Reports from Egypt suggested that Ashour was ordered to train individually until he apologised to El-Shennawy and the rest of the team.

Ashour has apologised and resumed training with the club. He will be available for selection as the Egyptian giants are set to lock horns with the Sea Robbers.

EMAM ASHOUR COULD BE AVAILABLE FOR SELECTION FOR ORLANDO PIRATES CLASH

“First, I want to express my full respect and appreciation to my teammates and everyone within the organisation, from the highest to the lowest levels,” wrote Ashour on Instagram, as translated from Arabic by KingFut.

“I apologise for any mistakes or for causing any frustration, and I accept my punishment, as it’s only fair. The difference between this situation and elsewhere is significant.”

“Unfortunately, some believe that fabricating news on social media and spreading lies can affect my relationship with Al Ahly fans. But this will not happen.

“I am proud to be a part of Al Ahly. I am also grateful for the unwavering support of our fans. They are the best in the world, and with God’s will, my dreams will come true at Al Ahly.”

The match between the Buccaneers and Ahly will take place on Saturday, 7 December, at Orlando Stadium in Soweto. The kickoff is set for 3:00 PM.
