Baroka FC and Milford headline eight NFD teams in Nedbank Cup

Baroka FC and Milford FC headlined the eight Motsepe Foundation Championship teams that qualified for the Nedbank Cup, which is set to take place in 2025.

The Limpopo-based side – Baroka, defeated Casric Stars 2-0 at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in KwaMhlanga on Tuesday as they aim to compete with the big guns of SA football.

Interestingly, Baroka made a name for themselves when they eliminated Kaizer Chiefs from the same competition. Bakgakga shocked Amakhosi with a 2-1 scoreline in the quarter-final of the 2011 Nedbank Cup.

Elsewhere, Milford FC claimed a 2-0 victory over Upington City FC at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington also on Tuesday. Milford have transferred their impressive form in the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the Nedbank Cup.

The KZN-based side is currently sitting at the top of the standings in the Championship after collecting 23 points from 12 matches. They won seven matches in the league, drew two and lost three.

MILFORD BEAT AMAKHOSI IN THE LAST 32 LAST SEASON

Milford are qualifying for the Nedbank Cup for the second season in a row after making it into the tournament last season. The Motsepe Foundation Championship log-leaders beat Amakhosi in the Last 32 in the previous campaign before suffering a 6-1 defeat to Stellenbosch FC in the round of 16.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday afternoon, Venda FC made a statement with a 4-1 win over JDR Stars at Soshanguve Giant Stadium. Reagan Lubesha, Judas Moseamedi, Rudzani Thobo, and Akani Rathokoa found the back of the net for the Thohoyandou outfit.

In contrast, Venda FC have been struggling for form in the second-tier as they are sitting at the bottom of the league table.

In the last qualifying matches on Wednesday, Hungry Lions FC beat AmaTuks with a slender 1-0 victory at Tuks Stadium. Last season, the University of Pretoria made it to the quarter-finals, where they lost against Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties.
