Chiefs legend’s plea to Rele Mofokeng and South Africa
Kaizer Chiefs legend Jan ‘Malombo’ Lechaba has made a plea to the rising star of Orlando Pirates, Relebohile Mofokeng, and the people of South Africa in light of the youngster’s remarkable performances.
Mofokeng’s skills and contributions have not only captured the attention of fans but also sparked conversations about his potential impact on South African football.
Lechaba believes Mofokeng has the potential to become one of South Africa’s greatest players.
The former Pretoria Callies, Kaizer Chiefs, and Mamelodi Sundowns midfield workhorse highlighted Mofokeng’s exceptional talent and urged South Africans to support the young player.
Malombo once considered one of the country’s top players, also stressed the importance of trust and humility for Mofokeng’s continued success.
The 64-year-old has been thoroughly impressed by Mofokeng’s performances and is confident in his ability to reach the highest level.

“So far, I feel Relebohile Mofokeng is our darling now. We hope and trust that he should be well looked after,” Malombo told FARPost.
“That’s point number one and point number two is that he should continue to give respect to what he is doing and for the people. This boy is going to be one of the best in the country, provided we look after him, and he looks after himself as well. He is a good player, make no mistake.”
Since his promotion to the first team late in the 2022/23 PSL season, the 20-year-old has quickly established himself as one of South Africa’s brightest young talents.
His ability to both create and score goals has made him a key player for the Buccaneers. His impressive performances have also earned him a spot on the South African national team, where he contributed to their qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
In just 17 games this season at Pirates, Mofokeng has already netted four goals and provided seven assists. He also played a key role as the Soweto giants defended their MTN8 title in the early stages of the campaign.
