Benni names Bafana duo that should be rubbing shoulders with Bellingham & Mbappe

Bafana Bafana’s all-time leading scorer, Benni McCarthy, has identified two SA football stars with the potential to grace the same field as the Real Madrid duo of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe.

McCarthy, who enjoyed a stellar career overseas, including a UEFA Champions League triumph with Jose Mourinho’s FC Porto in 2004, has transitioned into coaching. He’s held roles in the PSL and most recently served as a striker’s coach at Manchester United.

Now eager to take on his next coaching challenge, the 47-year-old is currently in South Africa as a Carling Cup Ambassador. The Carling Black Label Cup, featuring Magesi FC and the PSL All Stars, is scheduled for December 21st.

In a recent interview with Robert Marawa, McCarthy expressed his belief that two Bafana players possess the talent to compete at the highest level. He said should he land a job in Europe, he would certainly come for them.

WHO ARE THE TWO BAFANA STARS BENNI MCCARTHY FEELS SHOULD BE RUBBING SHOULDERS WITH MBAPPE AND BELLINGHAM

“I would have a pool of top South African talents that I would want. That is a shop window now into the big leagues. I would bring some South African players into the Scottish League to come. They play there and just kill it. And then from there, that’s how you get your name on,” he said.

The Cape Town-born coach went on to reveal the two names that stand out for him in the current crop of SA footballers.

“Teboho Mokoena, Ronwen Williams, we share the same agent. Not that I would want to cripple Sundowns. But these are players that I think the country should be seeing playing in the Champions League on the big stages and having their names amongst the Jude Bellinghams, the Mbappes…”
