Gavin Hunt on Chiefs loanee Donay Jansen: ‘I feel sorry for him…’
SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has given his impressions on Kaizer Chiefs loanee Donay Jansen and explained why he feels “sorry” for the youngster.
The 21-year-old was promoted to Amakhosi’s senior squad last season and subsequently made his debut under the guidance of interim coach Cavin Johnson.
After handing him his first team contract at the beginning of the current season, Chiefs sent Jansen on loan to the Spartans with the aim of getting him minutes before he comes back to compete for a place in Nasreddine Nabi’s team.
The Chiefs academy graduate has made two appearances for SuperSport across all competitions.
Hunt says they’re still figuring out where Jansen would perfectly fit, considering that he’s still undergoing a transitional period, adapting to a new playing style.
The SuperSport gaffer went on to commend Jansen’s footballing attributes, highlighting his potential.
HUNT ON WHAT HE MAKES OF KAIZER CHIEFS LOANEE DONAY JANSEN
“Obviously, Donay came on the last day of the window. So, we need to find out where he plays because every team has a different way of playing. And I think he’s a very good footballer,” said Hunt after SuperSport’s victory over Richards Bay FC in a league tie on Friday night.
“And I feel sorry for him because where we need him, I think it’s going to be tough for him to play. But yeah, he’s a good footballer. The problem is no reserve league, these types of things.
“He needs games. You can’t just train, train, train every day. So, I think we’re pretty out of Africa.
“That doesn’t help me because Africa’s good to play one or two and give them a chance. So, he’s going to compete, and hopefully, he gets a better run down again.”
