Pitso Mosimane’s Esteghlal FC keep league momentum

After dropping points in the AFC Champions League, Pitso Mosimane and his Esteghlal FC troops put up a convincing performance to record their second league win.

They beat Foolad FC 2-0 on Saturday night away from home, registering their second win under Mosimane’s guidance. Raphael Silva thrust Esteghlal FC ahead as early as the third minute, showing an insatiable desire for more goals.

Silva’s goal set Mosimane’s men on the way to a second straight win in the Gulf Pro League. Amirali Sadeghi doubled their score after 21 minutes.

Uzbekistan winger Jaloliddin Masharipov had his goal ruled out after hitting the target on the stroke of half-time.

HOW MOSIMANE AND HIS ESTEGHLAL FC HAVE FARED

Before this one, Pitso Mosimane and his Esteghlal FC were involved in the AFC Champions League for two weeks. They held the star-studded Al Ahli Saudi in an AFC Champions League match played last week.

The match was played in Saudi Arabia. Before holding Al Ahli Saudi they had been held to another draw by Pakhtakor FC. It ended 0-0.

That AFC Champions League match was played in the United Arab Emirates. They came into this one high with hopes of keeping their momentum in the league.

Their last league match was on 9 November, when Mosimane led the team to a 1-0 triumph over Mes Rafsanjan FC.

Mosimane had faced a rather challenging start, with his first three matches resulting in losses.

He started off with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Kheybar FC. That was followed by a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Tractor FC.

Their woes were further compounded by their heavy 3-0 defeat by Al-Hilal in the AFL Champions League. But their win over Mes Rafsanjan FC appeared to have breathed confidence into the team.
