‘I’m not Mourinho, I’m Nabi’

Kaizer Chiefs coach has reacted after his side suffered a disheartening 2-0 loss against Polokwane City FC in a Betway Premiership match at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday afternoon.

The result saw the Soweto giants slip to ninth place after eight games on the log standings.

The Glamour Boys have collected 11 points off three wins, two draws and three defeats. On Sunday, the first half was closely contested until Polokwane City FC broke the deadlock in the 17th minute. Oswin Appollis capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to give the home side a 1-0 advantage.

Polokwane City sealed the victory in the 89th minute. Brandon Petersen parried the ball into Simon Ramabu’s path, and he calmly slotted it into the net.

WHAT NASREDDINE NABI SAID ABOUT THE LOSS TO POLOKWANE CITY

The Tunisian mentor feels his team’s biggest letdown is failing to convert. “Polokwane created two opportunities and it’s two goals,” he told SuperSport TV. “Kaizer Chiefs created 265 opportunities, and we don’t [convert]. This is football; this is the problem for Kaizer Chiefs to score.”

Nabi is convinced Amakhosi are the best team in the league in terms of chance creation. “I think we’re the best team in the PSL to create [scoring] opportunities. We don’t have another solution, only to continue to work seriously.”

He stressed that because many of his players are young, he “didn’t want to kill their morale.” The former AS FAR Rabat and Young Africans mentor expressed confidence in the Chiefs project.

“But I don’t want my club to go and cry, no, no, no,” Nabi added. “I have confidence in my players, and I have confidence in the future. We’re in the right direction; the owners know what we want.

“We’re clear: I’ve confidence in my staff and myself. I don’t worry. Kaizer Chiefs will come back. I’m sure 200%.”

When asked about his half-time changes, Nabi said: “… [substitutions] maybe sometimes the player is not in [performing in the game] …this is football, it’s not every time that you change, and you change all. I’m not Mourinho; I’m Nabi.”
