Why Abubeker Nasir has yet to feature for SuperSport
SuperSport United attacker Abubeker Nasir has yet to feature since arriving at the club this season and reasons for that have been revealed.
The 24-year-old winger signed for Matsatsantsa in September, joining on a one-year-deal from the crosstown rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
Matsatsantsa hoped that this signing would provide much-needed boost to their attacking department, which was struggling somewhat in the early stages of the Betway Premiership season.
The Ethiopian international was the third player to join Gavin Hunt’s side from Sundowns this season. Nyiko Mobbie made a permanent move while Ricardo Goss signed for the club on a one-year loan deal which ends at the conclusion of the season.
According to Hunt, Nasir has not been able to feature for the team yet because he only began training with the squad this week.
Although the Spartans mentor is pleased with what he has seen of Nasir in training, but there remains doubts over his fitness.
He revealed that he had contemplated including him in the team that travelled to KwaZulu-Natal to face Richards Bay FC, however, he ultimately decided against taking the risk.

“Yeah, Nassir started training actually this week, for the first time since, when did he come?,” said Hunt.
“He came in August. First, he trained this week. Listen, you can see his quality.
“He’s got pace, which we need. Yeah, I would have loved to bring him tonight, but we couldn’t. We can’t take a chance here.
“But he’s got quality, there’s no doubt. It’s like Samir [Nurkovic], obviously, Nurkovic will come in January, and make a big difference to us.”
Nasir’s last taste of competitive action came last year in Sundowns’ emphatic 3-0 league victory over Cape Town Spurs.
Apart from Nasir, the Swanky Boys bolstered their attack with the additions of Vincent Pule, Nokutenda Mangezi, Donay Jansen [Kaizer Chiefs loanee], Tashreeq Morris and Samir Nurkovic.
