Mofokeng’s rapid ascent has enthralled Mzansi. In the last two seasons, the youngster has become a crucial player for Pirates, consistently delivering outstanding performances that have earned him regular call-ups to the Bafana squad. He was a key member of the team that qualified for the 2025 AFCON.
This season in Pirates colours, Mofokeng has already amassed an impressive tally of four goals and seven assists in 18 games, solidifying his reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in the country.
Building upon his highly successful 2023/24 campaign, where he won several accolades, including the PSL Young Player of the Season, Mofokeng continues to excel as he has already won the MTN8 title with Pirates this season.
Award-winning media personality Mbatha emphasised the profound impact of Mofokeng’s rise and success on young footballers, particularly those from townships like KwaMashu, where she was born in Durban.
“Whatever dream that you have for yourself, I hope God and your ancestors take you to it,” said Mbatha. “We pray for you, for sure, Buccaneer, Ezimnyama Ngenkani, The Happy People.
“I’m so proud, and I’m so inspired, and I know that even the kids that play football KwaMashu at Ground 6 when they watch you play, shining the way you shine. Kids, from where you come from, seeing you shine, get that motivation.
“So we have to pray for you to stay alive, to stay fit for every single limb in your body, to stay in top shape. Be the icon man, be the icon brother.”
LUCAS RADEBE URGES MOFOKENG TO PLAN FOR LIFE AFTER FOOTBALL
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs and Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe, who also attended the GQ Men of the Year Awards, offered some sage advice to the rising star – Mofokeng.
Acknowledging the short lifespan of a professional football career, Radebe stressed the importance of preparing for life after football.
“You know, a time like this when you are on the high, it is very important because there is life after football, and that comes quick with a lot of responsibilities, so you have a chance,” said the Bafana Bafana legend.
