Campbell hails emergence of Rele Mofokeng and three Chiefs youngsters

Club NXT attacker Shandre Campbell has hailed the emergence of Relebohile Mofokeng and three Kaizer Chiefs youngsters in the Betway Premiership.

Shandre Campbell joined Club NXT, which is the youth academy of Belgian outfit Club Brugge, from SuperSport United in July 2024.

The highly-rated winger broke into the SuperSport first team last season after impressing in the club’s DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] side a few seasons ago.

In his first season in the top-flight, Campbell featured in 30 appearances across all competitions for Matsatsantsa. He scored five goals and provided six assists.

Following his high-profile transfer to Belgium, where he plays in the second-tier league, Campbell has had an impressive start to life at Club NXT. The left-footed star has already scored five goals in eight matches for NXT.

In an interview with FARPost, Campbell has praised the likes of Relebohile Mofokeng, Wandile Duba, Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, and and his former teammates Neo Rapoo and Ime Okon.

Mofokeng [20] has been outstanding for Orlando Pirates, and he has been a regular in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad in recent months. In the current season, he has scored four goals and provided seven assists in 18 games for ‘Bucs.’

On the other hand, Rapoo [19] has been a regular feature for SuperSport as a left-back, playing eight games across all competitions, while centre-back Okon [20] has also made eight appearances for the club

Under the guidance of Nasreddine Nabi, Kaizer Chiefs have seen a resurgence of youth talent, a key factor in their pursuit to end their trophy drought.

Shabalala has emerged as a standout performer this season, contributing significantly to the team’s success with three goals and two assists in ten appearances across all competitions.

WHAT DID SHANDRE CAMPBELL SAY ABOUT YOUNG PLAYERS IN THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP?

“It’s good [to see young players in the Betway Premiership]; it shows that our generation has good and disciplined players. I’m happy that Rele is doing well as expected,” Campbell told FARPost.

“Vilakazi, Duba, Shabalala, Rapoo, and Okon, all of them are superstars and players with good hearts. I’m happy that they get to showcase their talent on the pitch, and their respective coaches believe in them.

“That’s what you need nowadays, to have coaches who believe in youngsters and that will help us go a long way.”
