Mabhuti Khenyeza’s Arrows exit: The reasons behind his resignation

Mabhuti Khenyeza has stepped down as the head coach of Golden Arrows, and the reasons behind his resignation have come to light.

The legendary PSL striker took over as coach of Arrows after Steve Komphela left the club to rejoin Mamelodi Sundowns.

This was Khenyeza’s second stint leading Arrows as a sole head coach, having previously done so after Vusumuzi Vilakazi’s departure. To assist him, Arrows appointed Kagiso Dikgacoi as an assistant coach, joining Musa Bilankulu on the technical team.

These coaching appointments reflected the KZN side’s ambition to improve, having concluded last season outside the top eight in the league.

However, FARPost has been reliably informed that Khenyeza’s employment with the club was not formalised by a contract.

THE FACTORS THAT LED TO MABHUTI KHENYEZA’S RESIGNATION FROM GOLDEN ARROWS

Sources indicate that club chairperson Mato Madlala exhibited reluctance to finalise a contractual agreement with the coach.

In addition, as previously reported by this publication, a group of players within the ‘Abafana Bes’thende’ squad have expressed dissatisfaction with Khenyeza’s coaching methods.

“Coach Mabhuti has been working without a contract for a while,” said the informant. “The chairlady [Madlala] was reluctant to give him a contract.

“Mabhuti hasn’t been at training since last week. He has officially resigned. Coach Kagiso Dikgacoi and Musa Bilankulu have been in charge of the team since Mabhuti left.”

Meanwhile, Khenyeza’s tenure last campaign was plagued by an 11-match losing run across all competitions, forcing the club to bring back Steve Komphela in March.

This campaign, Arrows started strongly with two consecutive league victories under Khenyeza. But their form dipped, resulting in a four-game losing streak, including three defeats in the Betway Premiership and one in the Carling Knockout Cup.

However, Arrows have recently shown improvement, winning two of their last three matches and drawing the other. Currently, they occupy sixth place in the league standings with 13 points from eight matches.
