Kgaogelo Sekgota: ‘The move was a blessing in disguise’

Kgaogelo Sekgota, the former Kaizer Chiefs winger, has shared his candid reflections on his recent move to Magesi FC, revealing how it has proven to be a positive turning point in his career.

Sekgota joined Magesi ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign. Magesi got promoted to the SA top-flight following a great run in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season.

The 27-year-old arrived at ‘Dikwena Tsa Meetse’ as a free agent to bolster the squad, aiming to maintain their status in the league.

For Magesi, the former Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC winger has featured in seven matches across all competitions. The Bafana Bafana international is yet to contribute towards a goal by scoring or grabbing an assist.

Magesi defied all odds by clinching the Carling Knockout Cup. They defeated Tshwane giants Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein in November.

However, in the league, the Polokwane-based outfit has been struggling for form and consistency. After eight league matches, Magesi lay 15th on the log with only eight points. This is after registering one victory, three draws and four defeats.

Sekgota highlighted his excitement, saying he feels a bit more comfortable playing in Polokwane, which is his hometown, and he has a lot of support.

“I’m from Polokwane and knowing that I’m playing for my hometown team makes it easy for me, I feel a lot more comfortable to perform and do well,” Sekgota told FARPost.

“The move was an easy one for me and also a blessing in disguise. Our matches [home games] are played in my local town [at Peter Mokaba Stadium]. That’s where I get a lot of support, and people will witness what I can do on the pitch.

“It’s actually an honour to be part of Magesi FC set-up. I’m looking forward to playing good football here and I will give my best. Hopefully, I achieve more goals with the club.”
