Pitso Mosimane reflects on Esteghlal’s recent form
Esteghlal FC coach Pitso Mosimane has provided an assessment of his team’s recent form following a positive run of results in their latest matches.
The experienced SA coach joined the Iran outfit in October after spending a few months without a club. This was after parting ways with Saudi Arabian side of the Abha Club in May 2024.
So far, the 60-year-old has been in charge of Esteghlal’s eight matches in all competitions. The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly mentor has won three matches, registered two draws and suffered three defeats.
On Wednesday, the 2016 CAF Champions League-winning coach guided ‘The Famous Royal Blues’ to a 1-0 victory in the Hazfi Cup against Mes Kerman in the Last 16.
In the Iran Pro League, Esteghlal are 10th on the log standings with 14 points after playing 11 matches. Then, in the AFC Champions League, the club is eighth in Group B after amassing five points from six encounters.
PITSO MOSIMANE SAYS ESTEGHLAL IS IMPROVING IN THEIR PERFORMANCES
‘Jingles’ has expressed satisfaction with his team’s recent form, highlighting their improved performances and unbeaten streak. A notable area that has shown significant improvement is the defence.
In the past five matches across all competitions, Esteghlal has conceded two goals and kept four clean sheets. On the other hand, in front of goal, they found the back of the net six times.
“We are getting better, we are improving slowly, we don’t give the goals easily now, that’s more important,” said Mosimane. “If you have zero behind, you have a chance to get a point or to win.
“We do work hard on our defensive organisation, when I arrived I conceded three goals, two goals. So it’s important to keep it quiet at the back.
“What’s important is for me to understand the team and the players because I did not know anything when I arrived. Now I know my players so it’s getting better.”
