Bradley Grobler on Nurkovic: ‘I was a big fan when he was at Chiefs’
SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler has shared his thoughts on the competition from the club’s new acquisition, Samir Nurkovic, while admitting he admired the forward during his time at Kaizer Chiefs.
Nurkovic joined SuperSport on a one-and-a-half-year deal in October as a free agent, as reported by FARPost.
However, the 32-year-old will only make his Matsatsantsa debut in January 2025 once his work permit is approved.
The talented striker was without a club after parting ways with TS Galaxy in September, just after the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership.
The Serbian international also had stints with Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs before he joined KZN side Royal AM for a brief spell.
During his time in the SA top-flight, the centre-forward played 107 matches in all competitions, racked up 31 goals, and grabbed 10 assists.
It was at ‘Amakhosi’ where Nurkovic enjoyed a prolific start to his career in SA football at Chiefs, netting 14 goals and providing six assists in 31 appearances.
BRADLEY GROBLER SAYS SAMIR NURKOVIC IS THE KIND OF PLAYER LACKING IN SA FOOTBALL
‘Sniper’ is of the view that Nurkovic is a type of striker that is lacking in SA football and believes he brings healthy competition to the SuperSport team.
“He’s a quality player. We have had a lot of respect for each other over the years. I think our style of play is very similar; I was a big fan of him when he was at [Kaizer] Chiefs,” Grobler told FARPost.
“He’s a player that is lacking in South African football. I don’t think there are many number nines [strikers] left.
“It’s a really good acquisition by the club. On top of that, we have Terrence [Dzvukamanja], Tashreeq [Morris] and [Nokutenda] Mangezi. Competition is extremely high at the moment, and for me and any other player, it’s good.
“You need competition; you need players pushing you. But at the same time, we’ve had top strikers over the years, good combinations and partnerships. We will be excited for Samir come the new year.”
