Haashim Domingo: ‘In two years, I have not played as much…’

Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Haashim Domingo has credited Cape Town City with helping him rediscover his form after a disappointing spell at Raja Casablanca.

The 29-year-old joined the Citizens this season, seeking a fresh start following his unsuccessful stint with the Moroccan giants. Prior to his North African adventure, Domingo was a key player for Sundowns.

Despite his undeniable talent, Domingo faced limited opportunities at both clubs. In three seasons with Sundowns, he made 57 appearances, scoring five goals. His time at Raja Casablanca was even more fleeting, with just 10 matches played without a goal or assist.

However, under the guidance of coach Eric Tinkler, Domingo has been given a regular role at Cape Town City. He has featured in 14 matches so far this season, including nine in the Betway Premiership, three in the MTN8 Cup, and two in the Carling Knockout Cup.

The 28-year-old has already made a significant impact, providing three assists for the Citizens, who have managed three league wins, two draws, and four losses this season.

WHAT HAASHIM DOMINGO SAID AMID HIS REVIVAL AT CT CITY

In an interview with FARPost, Domingo said Tinkler had given him more attention than he received in the two years before joining the Mother City-based club.

“In two years, I have not played as many games as this season. I came here because I needed a place where I would find myself and start enjoying football.

“I have over nine years of staying in Cape Town so the connection with the Mother City has been helpful to me. I spent some time in Morocco and it’s a chapter that I have put behind me.

“In the last two years, I haven’t been able to play as much as I have played here. I can safely say, that I am starting to enjoy my game.

“As a player, that is what you want to achieve first before thinking of anything. Thanks to coach Eric [Tinkler], now I can talk about being happy,” Domingo said.
