Mokwana on fire for Esperance, Mailula shines for Wydad
SA attacker Elias Mokwana was on fire for Esperance in the CAF Champions League, whilst Cassius Mailula shined for Wydad AC in the Botola Pro League 1. Both matches were played on Saturday.
Mokwana started the match and was taken off in the 84th minute. He found the back of the net in the 45th minute in the CAF Champions League group stage. Esperance defeated Egyptian side Pyramids FC 2-0 at Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi.
The former Sekhukhune United winger Elias Mokwana has now scored two goals and grabbed an assist in his last three Champions League matches.
As for Mailula, the Bafana Bafana international grabbed two assists as Wydad AC beat JS Soualem 3-0 on Saturday in the Botola Pro League 1 at Stade Larbi Zaouli. The 23-year-old started the game and came off in the 79th minute.
Wydad’s victory saw coach Rulani Mokwena’s side stretch their unbeaten run in the league to five matches after three wins and two draws. On the log standings, they lay third with 22 points from 13 matches.
PERCY TAU’S AL AHLY SUFFERS DEFEAT; MORENA RAMOREBOLI REMAINS UNBEATEN IN BOTSWANA
Tau’s side, Al Ahly, suffered a defeat in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup on Saturday against Mexican outfit CF Pachuca at Stadium 947. The Red Devils lost 6-5 on penalties after a 0-0 draw following 120 minutes of play. The ‘Lion of Judah’ was introduced in the stoppage time, he played the extra-time and scored a penalty in the shootout.
As for coach Morena Ramoreboli’s team, Jwaneng Galaxy, they played out to a 1-1 draw against Centre Chiefs in the Botswana Premier League on Saturday at Galaxy Stadium. The stalemate saw Galaxy as the only side yet to taste defeat in the league this season. Galaxy have registered five victories and five draws in 10 games, collecting 20 points.
Banyana Banyana attacker Noxolo Sesane was in action as her side, Eastern Flames. They suffered a 6-2 defeat on Friday in the Saudi Women’s Premier League against Al-Ula at Prince Saud bin Jalawi Stadium. The 24-year-old played the whole match and got an assist.
Defender Noko Matlou also played 90 minutes for Cacereno Femenino in the Spanish Primera Federacion. They drew 0-0 against Villarreal CF on Saturday at Manuel Sanchez Delgado Stadium.
FADLU DAVIDS WINS WITH SIMBA SC IN CONFED CUP
Fadlu Davids secured his second consecutive win for Simba SC in the CAF Confederation Cup, Group A match. The Tanzanian giants defeated Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien 2-1 on Sunday at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium. From three group-stage matches, Simba has six points after two wins and a defeat.
Shandre Campbell was in action for Club NXT on Sunday evening as they lost 1-0 against RWD Molenbeek away from home.
As for Gift Links, the talented attacker was in action for Aarhus Gymnastikforening on Sunday in the Danish Cup. Links started the match as they suffered a 4-2 defeat on Sunday. On aggregate, it was 4-3, and Links was on target.
