Where Cardoso feels there’s a room for improvement at Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns’ newly appointed head coach Miguel Cardoso has explained why he feels his side is far from where he wants them to be.
The Portuguese coach began his Masandawana tenure with a crucial 1-0 win over Raja Casablanca in the CAF Champions League group stage clash on Sunday afternoon at Loftus Versfeld.
Despite a few threatening attacks from Raja Casablanca, Sundowns dominated the match. Iqraam Rayners’ second-half goal secured a maximum for the Tshwane giants.
Even with a strong performance from his team, Cardoso insisted that Sundowns still have room for improvement to reach his desired level of play.
He believes they can improve their control of the game and create more scoring opportunities.
CARDOSO ON WHERE SUNDOWNS CAN DO BETTER
“I believe we are far away from the level we want to achieve, far away,” said Cardoso.
“Mostly, we should be able to control the game with the ball, find the right spaces.
“But the commitment we have will make us arrive quicker. So, that energy can multiply when we win.
“So, it was very important today to multiply that energy, that commitment, I think it’s obvious we believe each other that it is something we have already.
“Now, let’s continue to work. Let’s go for the [next] game, recover, study it and show to everybody.
“The group is big, we have a lot of people and all of them are committed as you saw the players from the bench celebrating. The players that were not on the list, they came inside the pitch and joined everybody and the injured players.
“I feel happy because of that, that is really, really a pleasure to feel here.”
Sundowns will face Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday, 18 December at Cape Town Stadium.
