Michael Nees’ wise words of wisdom to free agent, Khama BIlliat

Zimbabwe coach Michael Nees has offered words of wisdom to ex-Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs striker Khama Billiat who is currently unattached.

Billiat became a free agent following the end of the Zimbabwe’s 2024 PSL season.  The 34-year-old surfaced at Yadah FC in a bid to revive his career at the beginning of the last campaign.

Plausibly, he excelled to end the season on a high note, winning two top awards. He was named the second runner-up for the Player of the Season Award.

Billiat also received the Fans Player of the Year award for being exceptional throughout the season. He capped off the season, with 24 goal contributions – 13 goals and 11 assists.

After leaving Yadah FC, his management has been listening to offers for their client. FARPost understands that Sekhukhune United enquired about the Zimbabwean forward as the 2025 January transfer window approaches.

There has also been interest from Tanzania while newly promoted Zimbabwe outfit Scottland FC angle for his services. Ultimately, a return to the Betway Premiership is the most possible transfer as his management want him back in South Africa.

As such, Zimbabwe national team head coach Nees has urged Billiat to trade with caution to ensure a perfect conclusion of his illustrious career.

NEES’ WISE WORDS OF WISDOM THE FORMER MAMELODI SUNDOWNS AND KAIZER CHIEFS STAR

In an interview with FARPost, Nees said: “He is one player that I believe has matured so well in this game. You can’t really worry about him because he has seen it all. And is already knowing what he wants, he is at a different level.

“But at his age, there are a lot of things to consider when making a move from one club to [another] club. Khama is not a rookie. He is a player who is matured enough to make a decision.

“He knows, he doesn’t have ten more years in international football. For me, this was a project to give him an opportunity to end his national team career on a high with the AFCON or even more.

“Khama performed well. He is a strong individual but for sure he is not a player that could play for the whole season which is close to 40 games. But I think he still has legs for 25 high level matches per year. And he will make the right decision.

“So, he must find a club that does not need to put so much weight on his shoulders. It would be very difficult. The priority is for him to ensure a memorable ending to his career.”
