Morena Ramoreboli and Jwaneng Galaxy to part ways amicably
Morena Ramoreboli and Jwaneng Galaxy are set to part ways amicably, with the South African coach’s negotiations for the Botswana national team job progressing well.
Ramoreboli, who led the Zebras to their second-ever AFCON finals, joined Galaxy in 2021 and enjoyed considerable success, securing two league titles and two CAF Champions League group stage appearances.
Whether Ramoreboli will coach Galaxy in their match against Orapa United on Wednesday, December 18, remains uncertain. However, the club has already initiated a search for his replacement. The club reportedly wants to make the transition to a new coach as easy as possible.
The 43-year-old took over as interim coach of the Zebras in October 2024 after Didier Gomes da Rosa resigned. Facing a challenging qualification campaign, the Free State-born coach guided the team to two crucial draws against Mauritania and Egypt, securing their place in the 2025 AFCON finals.
Following that feat, the Botswana Football Association [BFA] is finalising his contract to have him permanently coach the Zebras. In a recent interview, Ramoreboli hinted that he had discussed the possibilities with his club’s management, who supported him.
“I had several meetings with my bosses [Jwaneng Galaxy],” he told SuperSport. “And to some extent, they were saying they would be very happy to see me leaving, whether to go to the national team or to go to a club that is bigger than them and the club that will take care of the talent that I have.
“But at the same time, they are also saying it should be for the right reasons. They have always been supportive of me. And this is not about being loyal but about being honest about situations…”
MORENA RAMOREBOLI’S CAREER
A consistent record of success characterises Ramoreboli’s coaching career. At Jwaneng Galaxy, he’s overseen a dominant league campaign, winning 68% of his matches.
His tactical acumen has been instrumental in guiding the team to impressive victories in the CAF Champions League, including triumphs over continental powerhouses. He also led Bafana Bafana to a COSAFA Cup title on the international stage.
Ramoreboli signed a new deal with Galaxy at the start of the season, resisting interest from the likes of Sekhukhune United, Marumo Gallants and Uganda’s Vipers.
Meanwhile, the draw for the 2025 AFCON will take place on 27 January 2025 in Morocco. The tournament is scheduled to run from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
Ramoreboli’s departure from Jwaneng Galaxy marks a significant shift in his career, allowing him to fully dedicate his focus to leading the Zebras internationally.
