Nabi on Potsane: ‘He’s a player that …’
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has explained why Tebogo Potsane didn’t start against TS Galaxy and shared his assessment of the player. After an eight-month injury layoff, the Chiefs winger made a comeback, appearing as a substitute against Polokwane City and TS Galaxy.
While Chiefs suffered a loss to Polokwane and drew with Galaxy, Potsane’s return ignited hope among the Amakhosi faithful. The injury had forced him to miss crucial pre-season training and the start of the season. However, through unwavering determination and rigorous rehabilitation, he gradually regained fitness.
Potsane showcased flashes of brilliance in his comeback appearances, impressing with his electric pace, skilful dribbling and goal threat.
NABI EXPLAINS HIS POTSANE DECISION
The Amakhosi mentor, Nabi, has revealed why he has opted to start the former Royal AM attacker on the bench despite a lack of quality on the wings.
“He’s a good player, but he’s a player coming from a long-term injury,” said Nabi in a post-match interview.
The Tunisian mentor expressed concern regarding Potsane’s current fitness level. He believes the player is not yet physically prepared to play a full 90 minutes and that pushing him too hard could increase the risk of injury.
“We feel that he’s a player that would have given you 60-70 minutes. When you look at his performance, he did very well in the first 30 minutes. It’s only his second game of the league. We feel that he’s only 60% of his capacity. He can do better.”
After nine league matches under Nabi, Amakhosi have a record of three wins, three draws, and three losses, leaving them ninth on the log. They remain with one game before the end of the year.
Chiefs take on Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in a home fixture.
