Pule explains strong on-field chemistry with Lorch at Pirates
SuperSport United winger Vincent Pule has told a story behind the strong on-field chemistry he shared with Thembinkosi Lorch during their time at Orlando Pirates.
The duo left the Buccaneers last season, both moving to Tshwane-based clubs.
Lorch joined Mamelodi Sundowns in an unexpected move during the January transfer window when the team was still under the tutelage of Rulani Mokwena.
Meanwhile, Pule departed the Sea Robbers at the end of the previous campaign. He then signed for Matsatsantsa, reuniting with head coach Gavin Hunt.
Prior to suffering a spate of injuries over the past three seasons, which led to a decline in their performances, the two had a deadly partnership at Pirates, particularly under the guidance of Milutin Sredojević and Rulani Mokwena.
Lorch’s exceptional displays in the 2018/19 season were rewarded with the PSL Footballer and Player’s Player of the Season awards. Pule, meanwhile, was honoured with the Absa-lutely Awesome Goal award for his spectacular strike against Polokwane City.
Pule attributed their special connection to their shared experiences in the lower leagues. Both players used to play at the same venue, with Lorch turning out for Maluti FET [third tier] and Pule playing for African Warriors [second tier].
He further explained that having mutual friends from the their home province, Free State also played a role in fostering a strong relationship, which was evident in their on-field chemistry.
PULE ON HOW STRONG ON-FIELD CHEMISTRY WITH LORCH CAME ABOUT
“I think it comes a long way…the time that I was playing for African Warriors, Lorch was at Maluti FET,” Pule told FARPost.
“It’s a bit closer because we used to share the same stadium. Some friends of Lorch from Bloemfontein, we used to chill together.
“I think it started from there, we used to talk and I think we became a bit closer. So, I think playing at Pirates, it was that thing of I know Lorch and he knows me [too].
“The chemistry was better.”
