Why Otladisa chose Sekhukhune over three other Betway Premiership clubs

Katlego Otladisa’s representative, Nimrod Mbhalati, has outlined the reasons behind the talented attacker’s decision to join Sekhukhune United over three other clubs. Otladisa joined Sekhukhune on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.

The 28-year-old winger, who signed for Orlando Pirates in 2023 after impressive performances with Marumo Gallants, will seek more playing time at Babina Noko.

Despite joining the Soweto giants, he has struggled to break into the starting line-up, making only 12 appearances across all competitions. This loan move is expected to provide Otladisa with a valuable opportunity to gain more playing time.

According to reliable sources, three other DStv Premiership clubs wanted to sign Otladisa. Polokwane City, Golden Arrows, and his former team, Marumo Gallants, were all in the race to sign him. However, Babina Noko ultimately secured the services of the former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker.

Other clubs were pushing for a permanent deal for Otladisa, a move that Orlando Pirates were unwilling to consider.

WHAT INFLUENCED KATLEGO OTLADISA’S MOVE TO SEKHUKHUNE UNITED

In an interview with FARPost, Nimrod Mbhalati of Nida Sports Agency revealed that Sekhukhune’s approach to signing Otladisa set them apart from other interested clubs.

Mbhalati emphasised that the Limpopo club expressed a strong desire to secure Otladisa’s services, recognising his talent and potential impact on the team.

“Look, Otladisa is loved at Pirates by both the board and the fans. So, we saw it fit for him to get game time somewhere else. This is because, at his age, it’s very important for him to play,” Mbhalati told this publication.

“We had four teams who were interested in his services. But, we chose Sekhukhune simply because of the way they showed more interest in him. Yes, other teams showed interest, but with Sekhukhune, it was different.

“I mean, the manner in which teams approach you when they want you can influence your decision as to whether you want to join them. So, with Sekhukhune, it was easy for us to take that decision.”

Mbhalati continued: “He is a top player with a desire to play football. I think South Africa will see a different Otladisa, and I wish him all the best.”
