How Lehlogonolo Mojela’s setback has impacted Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has explained how Lehlogonolo Mojela’s injury has affected his team. He has confirmed that they will look for a striker in the upcoming transfer window.
Barker spoke after the team’s 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in a Betway Premiership match at DHL Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night.
Mojela is currently on the sidelines after he has undergone surgery to treat a recurrence of a previous knee injury. The 28-year-old’s injury blow will keep him out of action for most of the season.
The talented forward signed for Stellies at the beginning of this season following his impressive performances at TS Galaxy.
Since arriving at the Cape Winelands-based outfit, Mojela has played nine matches across all competitions before undergoing knee surgery.
Having started the 2024/25 PSL season on a high note, Mojela has contributed six goals in those nine appearances for the Barker-coached side.

Coach Barker acknowledged that his team is currently struggling offensively due to Mojela’s injury, which is placing a significant burden on Ashley Cupido to perform consistently every week.
He revealed that the club aims to strengthen their squad with a striker during the January transfer window to help ease some pressure on Cupido.
“We are lacking a little bit upfront due to Lehlogonolo Mojela’s injury. So, it is difficult for Ashley Cupido to play week in and week out,” said Barker.
“We also felt that maybe later on in the game, it may become more open, which will allow Cupido to use his pace to get behind the defence.
“We are in need of a striker and are currently looking at certain options. Hopefully, we can strengthen our squad with a player in the middle or another winger that we desperately need.”
Stellenbosch is currently fourth in the league table, having collected 15 points from nine matches. Their next game will be against SuperSport United on Saturday, 28 December. The kick-off is set for 8 pm.
